These were made from 1904-48 and depict a dancing or drunken sailor. These EPL 535 toys came with several different ribbons on the hat, each representing a different navy vessel. You wind up the sailor and watch him sway as if drunk or stand him on his head and watch his legs flail. The body is metal but is covered with fabric clothing. This sailor is from the “Brandenburg”. These are the rarest of the versions Lehmann made. This came with a very rare, later top-loading box. The box is only fair and has the flaps reinforced, but the graphics are totally different and undoubtedly later than the boxes usually seen. The toy is mint.
