Only a few of these beautiful and delicate toys were made by Lehmann around 1896. They operate by pulling the drawstring that runs through the bird’s body causing its wings to flap in a very realistic fashion. The seminal book “Lehmann Toys” by Geslik, says “only a few specimens have survived in working order.” Page 131. The printed pasteboard wings are often bent or damaged. This one works very well and is a sight to behold. (The blue stand was custom-made to display the toy). A photocopy of the operating instructions that came glued inside the box is included. The original box is complete and original with repairs to the skirt of the lid as shown.
