Known as EPL 350, this early toy from 1894-1918 depicts and oriental man pulling rickshaw with a seated lady rocking a baby in her arms. It operates by string drive and was designed for the man’s legs to alternate as if walking as the toy moves along. This rarest-of-all versions has a hinged umbrella that is red, white and black, the colors of the flag of the German Empire at the time. It has “Kiautschau” stamped prominently on the umbrella in recognition of a German naval base established in Kiauchow, China in 1898. The Lehmann logo and name are stamped onto the metal, not painted on. This is a very rare toy in nearmint condition.
