Lehmann “AMPOL” Arctic explorer rides 3 wheeler

Lehmann made these from 1910 to 1935.  Called EPL 681, it memorializes the 1909 exploration of the North Pole by an American adventurer.  He drives the windup three-wheeled vehicle while fully clothed in fur.  His little assistant, similarly attired, spins the umbrella overhead as the man raises and lowers his fur hat.  The correct original umbrella is a map of the northern hemisphere with the North Pole at the top and “Lehmann” marked on the umbrella.  Many times these toys appear at auction with replaced, incorrect umbrellas made by cutting the top off of small metal globe toys, so be careful.  Shown with scarce original box.
